William Watkins (b.1740) who came to Maryland (USA & Canada)

I am a direct descendant of William Milton Moses Watkins. My grandmother, Pearl Seymour Watkins (married to Thomas Jefferson Watkins) did an extensive family tree many years ago. I ran across my copy today, and found this information:

"There is no record of any of William Milton Watkins' brothers.

There were 5 brothers who came to America from England. When their father died, 4 returned to England but he did not go as his wife wasw afraid he would drown.. There were only sailing vessels at that time.

English law at that time was that all living children had to be present at the reading of the will. Since he did not go the property was finally taken over by the Country of England.

Soon after this, the church (Old Church of England) where all the records of families were kept in the basement, burned and all records were lost. There are no records available before that time.

My mother tried to trace the family for Grandfather as he wanted to know if any of his family were living. The letter my mother received from England told of the above event. None of the family could be found. There were none of his family mentioned in the records that were kept after that time. Nor were there any pictures available. Grandfather wanted pictures of his father and mother.

I know that the above is true for I saw the letter at the time my mother tore it up after my father died.

The above furnished by Hazel Watkins Enslow, daughter of Daniel Milton Watkins and granddaughter of William Milton Watkins."

I have a nearly complete tree from William Milton Watkins through roughly the mid-1980's. I'll be happy to share with anyone who is interested.
