William Watkins (b.1740) who came to Maryland (USA & Canada)

The William Watkins that was born in Wales (1740), came to maryland, then to mason county, kentucky is the father of daniel watkins, my great great great grandfather, his son was george watkins, my great great grandfather, his son was james garfield watkins (who got left out of the 1880 census, because he was an infant, and I finally found him through a biographical online book), he was my great grandfather, and my grandfather is oval eugene watkins, who passed away in 1998-I am their granddaughter. I have been working on the watkin family for many years. My mom is orval watkins daughter, and is happy that I have found the rest of the family, not past william though, and I would like to get back their to wales, england. That is interesting imformation written about his 2 brothers-thank you! If you want things that I have let me know. I even came across a picture, by coicidence of george watkins. It would be nice to get this watkins family all connected-and probably very helpful to the other descendants, too. They all had a ton of children! thanks, nancy roberts

Yes. Leanne and I found each other about a month ago and have been sharing and exchanging alot of family information. My Great Great Grandfather is George Watkins, born in Washington Township, Ohio, 1830-(the only George Watkins on the census there, too). I had been looking for my Great Grandfather James Garfield Watkins since about 1976, and discovered about 2 years ago that he had been left out of the 1880 census in Will county, Illinois where he was born as the baby of George Watkins family. Daniel Watkins if George's father and our William Watkins, born 1740, Wales/England is Daniel's father. My grandfather, orval watkins, who passed away in 1998 is James Garfield's Watkins son, he never gave me much information, and his wife kind of got me on the wrong track. Things came together when I found a book on the computer written about Daviess County Missouri. Leanne told me that you may be able to help us, she also told me that you have had some hip surgery, so we will try not to bug you too much! But, if you enjoy this, it could be a fun past time while you recuperate? Thank you for answering my message! Nancy.

William Watkins (b.1740) who came to Maryland

Morning,
I am reading the info on William and Daniel Watkins with interest. Has anybody found DAR records on William. Daniel and his siblings cemetery records from Montgomery Co., Indiana have DAR numbers on them. It would be interesting to see these records or at least know what was in them. My husband's line is Daniel to George. George to Cynthia Alvira. Thanks, Jerri Inman

William Watkins (b.1740) who came to Maryland

As I posted in 2006 I am a descendant of William Watkins through his son Joseph.
Last year I submitted my DNA to the Watkins Family DNA and found that I have a 24 of 25 point match to a Dale Francis Watkins. Statically this means that it is highly probable Dale and I share a common ancestor in the last ten generations.

I am ten generations in decency from William born in 1740 and I believe Dale is 8 generations from Charles b 1796. That means there is probably a generation or two of Watkins between William born 1740 and Charles born 1796.

Dale has traced his earliest Watkins Ancestor to a Charles Watkins born 07 AUG 1796 in London, England and died about 1880 in London. Charles oldest son William Milton Moses Watkins b 18JUN 1828 in London came to the USA in the mid 1800's along with four brothers and a sister. When Charles died the Watkins land and Castle in England were claimed by the state as not all of his heirs traveled back to England to claim the estate as required by English law.

I have been unable to find any source of information to help time William to Charles but the DNA does not lie.

William Watkins (b.1740) who came to Maryland

I am a direct descendant of William Milton Moses Watkins. My grandmother, Pearl Seymour Watkins (married to Thomas Jefferson Watkins) did an extensive family tree many years ago. I ran across my copy today, and found this information:

"There is no record of any of William Milton Watkins' brothers.

There were 5 brothers who came to America from England. When their father died, 4 returned to England but he did not go as his wife wasw afraid he would drown.. There were only sailing vessels at that time.

English law at that time was that all living children had to be present at the reading of the will. Since he did not go the property was finally taken over by the Country of England.

Soon after this, the church (Old Church of England) where all the records of families were kept in the basement, burned and all records were lost. There are no records available before that time.

My mother tried to trace the family for Grandfather as he wanted to know if any of his family were living. The letter my mother received from England told of the above event. None of the family could be found. There were none of his family mentioned in the records that were kept after that time. Nor were there any pictures available. Grandfather wanted pictures of his father and mother.

I know that the above is true for I saw the letter at the time my mother tore it up after my father died.

The above furnished by Hazel Watkins Enslow, daughter of Daniel Milton Watkins and granddaughter of William Milton Watkins."

I have a nearly complete tree from William Milton Watkins through roughly the mid-1980's. I'll be happy to share with anyone who is interested.

My name is Carol Jo Perry. My father is Deward Wayne Critten (from Jamesport, MO - Daviess County). He is the son of Laura Angeline Watkins and James Carl Critten. Laura Angeline is the daughter of George Palmer Watkins and Alice Knight. George Palmer Watkins is the son of George Watkins and Laura Ann Lashley. George Palmer's sibling are Lorton, Johnathan Brice, Lucy Elmira, Cynthia Alvira, Sarah May, Walter Scott, Willam Jasper, James Garfield and Bessie Jane. I understand you are a descendant of James Garfield. I would love to hear more about your family history.
Thanks,
Carol Perry
